Every year since 2012, HUD’s International and Philanthropic Affairs Division (IPAD) has partnered with the Council on Foundations (COF) to host and select the winners of the Secretary’s Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships. IPAD is excited to open the Call for Entries for the 2024 award cycle.

The Secretary’s Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships honors excellence in cross-sector strategic partnerships between the philanthropic and public sectors. The award recognizes the partnership process and its impact as a community strategy to increase the quality of life of low- and moderate-income Americans. Past partnerships have addressed challenges in housing, community development, economic development, health, safety, education, workforce development, disaster resilience, inclusivity, and cultural opportunities.

In 2023, HUD and COF announced the winners at COF’s Leading Locally conference in Denver, Colorado. Nine foundations were honored at an award ceremony hosted by Solomon Greene, HUD’s principal deputy assistant secretary for policy development and research, and Kathleen Enright, COF’s president and chief executive officer. As HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge stated, “This year’s awardees represent the heartbeat of our great nation. Every day, they respond to the call of some of our most vulnerable neighbors, advocate on their behalf, and confront some of our most pressing challenges.”

The 2024 application is now officially open with a deadline of February 23, 2024. HUD plans to host the award ceremony in the summer of 2024.
